Category and Tags shouldn't be mandatory

Or at least not used this way: Both Forums and Threads share the same set of Category terms. I don't think it's justified to categorize both the same way. Frankly I don't see any use of categorizing Forums at all.

Also one should be able to opt out of using tags. Related: https://orchardforums.codeplex.com/workitem/18

Removed Taxonomies

Categorizing Forums is very useful imo, almost every real life forum has that possibility and we also need it for out forums, so please don't remove it :P But I agree that Category and Tags shouldn't be mandatory.

Here are some examples of forums that make use of it:

Yes it's useful but not always and not in this way. First of all there are tags and categories: I'd argue that both at the same time aren't useful for everybody.

Also, categories are the same for forums and threads: I can see no possible scenario where I'd categorize forums and threads with the same categories, since first of all forums are also kind of a category for threads...

Well, tags can be used the same way as taxonomies/categories, but they are not necessarily the same by definition. But you are right that it's not really needed to have both, since you can do almost the same thing with tags as with taxonomies.

Forums are, like you said, categories for threads and you should be able to categorize forums (imo), like in the examples I showed. There is indeed no use of categorizing forums and threads with the same categories.

Maybe you should have only taxonomies for forums and only tags for threads?

I actually have been wanting to remove the Catorgy taxonomy from Threads for a while, It serves no purpose.

I have removed Taxonomies from the module completely. I will push this to a recipe later on.

The migration path is a manual remove of the field - It would be dangerous to do otherwise.
